Background
Driven by personal experience and identifying a need in the market, Kali redefines electrolyte monitoring through a portable and intuitive solution which empowers and gives control back to patients.
The Kali companion app helps patients with condition management through a tailored approach, while improving clinician and patient communication.

Research Interviews
To kickstart the project, several semi-structured interviews were held at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. These were held with clinicians, nurse and patients to understand the needs and functionality of the app.

14/16
interviewees raised patient treatment non-compliance as a major issue
12/16
interviewees said that they have to travel far to the hospital to attend or carry out appointments
7/16
patients said that they find it hard to contact their clinicians in-between appointments
9/16
interviewees mentioned that patients aren’t monitored as often as they should be
Synthesis
The interviews highlighted several key themes which became opportunities that the app could help tackle.

Design
The design process began with developing the app’s information architecture, guided by insights from interview findings.
I then proceeded to create wireframes, starting with low-fidelity sketches. These evolved into mid-fidelity wireframes in Figma, ultimately leading to a fully interactive Figma prototype. This prototype was tested with a user group, allowing for iterative improvements based on their feedback.

Outcome
The outcome was an accompanying application to the Kali monitoring device which aids users with tracking their potassium and obtaining a better understanding of their medication, diet and symptoms.

Next steps
Moving forward from where this project left off, I would like to continue developing the app through further user testing as well as develop and design the clinician facing interface.
